About Steyning PPG
The Steyning Patient Participation Group was set up by Dr. Jennie Ferrie and George Cockman in the 1990s. All patients registered at the Steyning Medical Practice are automatically members.
The PPG has developed and evolved in response to the changing health environment and the needs of the Practice and its patients. It has a small committee, which aims to both disseminate information and ensure that the views of patients are fed back to the Practice and the wider health community.
Good Health Magazine has been our main method of communication for some years. It has developed from a slim duplicated newsletter to a professionally printed full colour magazine. We currently publish three times each year, and each edition is financed by our loyal local advertisers, and a generous grant from the Wilson Memorial Trust. The intention is to provide updates on developments at Steyning Medical Practice, to highlight new issues arising from the local health community, and to produce articles of interest and information. Delivery of the magazine to 4,500 local homes is through a network of wonderful volunteers.
In addition to our magazine we now have a messaging service delivering emailed updates directly to subscribed PPG members. Click on this link to join: https://groups.io/g/steyningppg
Although the messaging service is successful, this does not meet the need for real time information, nor the requirements of those without computers. Having received a grant from the Sussex Community Foundation, we now provide health information via TV/computer screens. These are located in the practice, community venues and high street businesses, including pharmacies. These screens give real time information direct from the practice and other trusted sources. This is a unique service for Steyning Medical Practice patients through the Patient Participation Group.
Our PPG is affiliated to the National Association of Patient Participation Groups. We use updates from them to improve our health information to local residents.
We are always keen to recruit new members to our committee. An interest in the health and wellbeing of our local community is all that is required. Please go to our Contacts page.
